Iris García Cuevas wrote the short-story collections Para todo mal and Ojos que no ven, corazón desierto. Her novel 36 toneladas won the 2008 Ignacio Manuel Altamirano National Prize and was nominated for the Memorial Silverio Cañada Prize for the best first crime novel published in 2011. She is pursuing a doctorate in Latin American Literature at Universidad Veracruzana, where she researches the detective figure in crime fiction.
